We did Fourth of July a little differently this year.
Our neighborhood always puts on a fireworks show for us either the night before the Fourth or the night of, all depending on the day of the week. This year they were on the third, so we stayed up past Benjamin's bedtime, with chairs out in the backyard to enjoy this year's display. If the word "fireworks" is mentioned, Benjamin needs to know the when, where and why immediately, so it was no surprise he was super excited.
The next morning, we ate breakfast & loaded up our "camelbak" with the essentials & headed out for a morning of adventure. I had heard about the Airfield Falls Trailhead on social media from a couple of my friends & when the words "waterfall" entered the description, I knew it had to go on our list.
We got there while all the morning dog walkers were there, so it was still fairly quiet & set off, looking for water & a good time.
*Note: Go early; the parking lot is small!
Only restroom is a port-a-potty, so plan accordingly.
Just back up this old road was a farm, so of course we had to go check it out.
The river is a fork off the Trinity River & winds all the way down the hiking path. We didn't complete the whole path, but look forward to going back to see more.
Butterflies were everywhere in the path area that was deemed the "Butterfly Garden." We have now added to our list a Butterfly Garden Kit.
Damon is excited, I promise. It was all my picture taking. lol
Cheese!
The water was so nice & cool, that we dipped in twice. I didn't bring swim gear since it was our first time, but definitely adding them to our list of items next trip. Benjamin wouldn't let me forget that "Mama didn't pack the swim clothes."
Tip: Water shoes! We splurged on ours & wear them everyday, but the river is slick & something with good traction is completely necessary.
Our Essentials:
