We had 5 full days in Arizona, getting in early on a Tuesday and flying back on Saturday night.  We decided to spend all day Saturday in Phoenix, leaving us 3 1/2 days for Tucson exploration. Throw in a 2 hour time difference and we were up super early every morning; I used it to enjoy a few cups of coffee & breakfast while watching the sun rise.

Wednesday, we loaded up in the car and headed 2 hours southish to Tombstone.  It is far enough south, you go through border patrol going & coming back.  We wanted to go to Bisbee also, but that's even further south, so decided that would have to be for another trip. Benjamin was such a trooper that week; he ran & explored hard all day with us. He's turning into quite the adventurer.

Tombstone is everything you see in the movie, if you've seen the movie. If you haven't, rent it; you won't be sorry I promise. Kurt Russell, Sam Elliot, Val Kilmer, Bill Paxton - I mean, hello.  When you arrive in Tombstone, you are stepping back in time. Architecture remains just as it did & characters can be seen roaming the streets as though you were living back in 1881, with the exception of 20th century luxuries.

Streets were closed off for gun fights, wagon rides & free range wandering.  We took a trolley ride throughout the city & learned so much from our amazing guide.  Our trolley ride also included a fun little comedy show featuring some of the Tombstone history, while being funny & silly at the same time.

You can also see on the right in one of the photos, OK Corral. That is the actual site of the infamous gun battle & they still have a gun fight show during the day.

On the north side of Tombstone sits the Cochise County Courthouse & we stepped inside for a tour (of course) & a little relief from the air conditioning.

Prisoners.

The gallows have been reconstructed over time from vandalism & a believe a fire. That area gave me some serious goosebumps.

This was after the comedy show we went to. Since this show, Benjamin has been obsessed with cowboys.

We ate lunch at Big Nose Kate's Saloon. Pictures from inside turned out really poorly :( You can still access the basement of the saloon, which was the original bar & see portions of the mines that actually put Tombstone on the map.

Other places you should check out while you are there are the Bird Cage Theatre & Tough Nut Mines.
